Piezoelectric power generation in tires

Image
The battery range of many electric vehicles is limited, meaning that such methods of transportation can only be used for short trips. However, in extended-range electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids, manufacturers include an internal combustion engine that uses conventional fuels to recharge batteries in motion and, hence, extend their range. 1   Although practical, this approach defies the purpose of having an electrical driveline: to reduce environmental impact through the use of renewable energy sources. The need remains for a cleaner power-generation technique that allows maximum range extension with minimal environmental consequences.        Piezoelectric materials generate electrical energy when subjected to mechanical strain. Power-generation devices based on such materials have surfaced in recent years in the context of vibrational-energy harvesting. 2   However, their output has only been sufficient to power sensors...

Access System with Biometric Elements

Image
Our access systems with biometric elements introduce another level of security to vehicles. For example, the presence of a valid key inside the vehicle is no longer enough to start the engine as the driver is also required to provide authentication using a fingerprint sensor. This two-fold authentication process significantly increases the vehicle’s anti-theft protection measures.        Biometric elements also allow drivers to personalize their vehicles. The system is connected to an interior camera, which recognizes the driver’s face and automatically personalizes vehicle settings, such as seat and mirror position, music, temperature, and navigation, for the driver in question.        Continental’s Intelligent Glass can also be integrated, which allows drivers to gradually darken almost all windows of the vehicle and lightens them again automatically when the driver approaches.

Tesla Cybertruck Totally Not Certifiable In Europe, Says Expert

Image
A various discussion on the futuristic design of Tesla Cybertruck.  While those are just fine because everyone's entitled to their own opinion, there's one thing that Tesla  should address in order for the company to sell the fully electric pickup truck – and that is its legality on the road.        With that said, we've already imagined what the Cybertruck would look like if it were to be redesigned as a road-legal production truck. With the addition of side mirror cameras (currently not legal in the U.S. as of this writing), headlight clusters, smaller tires, windshield wipers, and rounder edges, this rendering of the Cybertruck could be the production version of the Tesla truck.       H owever, this version of the Cybertruck could still flunk European standards in terms of safety, more so if we're to discuss the one that Tesla presented during its reveal. In fact, in order for the Cybertruck to pass Euro...

Auto industry needs to grow by 14% to meet $5 trillion economy India's target : Pawan Goenka

Image
Auto manufacturing will have to grow by 14 percent if India has to achieve the $5 trillion economy target,  Mahindra and Mahindra,  Managing Director Pawan Goenka said on December 16. India has set an ambitious target of $5 trillion in the next five years and 12 percent of it is expected to be contributed by the manufacturing sector.        "$5 trillion economy target by 2025-26 means a CAGR of 8.5 percent. Within that, the target of manufacturing is $1 trillion, which means 12 percent from manufacturing and within manufacturing, automotive plays a significant role. If manufacturing has to grow 12-13 percent auto must grow by 14 percent," Goenka said during a panel discussion at the India economic conclave 2019.        "Auto is only 4 percent of exports in India as compared to auto manufacturing countries like Thailand, Germany, Korea, and Japan which are more than 10 percent," he added.  ...

FASTag : Electronic toll

Image
FASTags are prepaid rechargeable tags for toll collection that allow automatic payment deduction from the FASTag, they are normally affixed on the windscreen of your vehicle. With the help of a FASTag, you will not have to stop your vehicle at toll plazas to pay the toll. As soon as the vehicle crosses the toll plaza, the toll fee will get deducted from the bank account/prepaid wallet linked to the FASTag affixed on the vehicle's windscreen. An activated FASTtag works on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. Moreover, these FASTags do not have any expiry date, that is, they can be used as long as they are readable at the toll plaza and have not tampered. Things to know About FASTag :  In case you are going without a FASTag , look for the hybrid lane in toll plazas where FASTag, as well as other modes of payment, will be accepted. The ministry of road transport and highways has instructed that one lane on either side of the tol...

How harmful exhaust flumes to human body !

Image
List of gases found in exhaust fumes : Carbon monoxide Hydrocarbons (Benzene) Sulphur dioxide Soot (Not exactly a gas) Carbon monoxide  :        No discussion pertaining to car fumes and its dangers can be complete without mentioning this hazardous gas. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, tasteless and odorless gas in itself, and is one of the chief culprits that make exhaust fumes hazardous to human health, as it binds to the hemoglobin in our blood, which results in suffocation.                                Car exhaust fumes contain certain poisonous chemicals, including carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, formaldehyde, benzene and soot, all of which can be detrimental to the human body if consistently inhaled in large quantities. Sometimes, we like things that are just plain weird and make very little sense in an otherwise ...

Hotchkiss drive

Image
Hotchkiss is the simplest & most widely used type of a rear axle drive. In this case, the spring besides taking the weight of the body also take the torque reaction, driving thrust & the side thrust. Fig:11.1 shows such a drive. The propeller shaft is provided with two universal joints & also a sliding joint. The spring is fixed rigidly in the middle, to the rear axle. The front end of the spring is fixed rigidly on the frame, while the rear end is supported in a shackle. The driving thrust is transmitted to the frame by the front half of the springs.       Torque Tube Drive: In this type of drive, the spring takes only the side thrust besides supporting the body weight. The torque reaction, braking torque & the driving thrust are taken by another member which is called the torque tube. One end of torque is attached to the axle casing, while the other end which is spherical in shape fits in the cup fixed to the frame as shown fig:...

Material selection for Chassis

Image
An Automotive body depends on the manufacturer's considerations with the legislation and regulation, and some on the requirements of the customers. Most of the manufacturers prefer featured materials which are lightweight, economic, safety and recyclability.       Steel :       The main elements of selecting material especially for the body is involved in a wide variety of characteristics such as thermal, chemical or mechanical resistance, manufacturing efficiency and durability. Steel stands as the first choice for manufacturers with all the required characteristics. The improvement or development in the steel industry made the steel stronger, lightweight and stiffer than the earlier. Steel includes not only vehicle bodies, but also engine, chassis, wheels and many other parts. Iron and steel develop the critical components of structure for the bulk manufacturing of vehicles and are low-cost.       The best r...

Introduction

Image
Motorized vehicle consisting of four wheels and powered by an internal engine. Automobiles are used to transport people and items from one location to another location. After years or various designs, inventors were able to develop a functional general design that is utilized by major automakers as the foundation of their designs. Automobiles generally use gasoline to fuel the internal engine, but technological advances have led to the design of cars that run on electricity and even water
